Background
An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a device which graphically records the electrical activity of the muscles of the heart. It is used to identify normal and abnormal heartbeats. First invented in the early 1900s, the EKG (derived from the German electrocardiogram) has become an important medical diagnostic device.
