Naringin dihydrochalcone, abbreviated to naringin DC, is an artificial sweetener derived from naringin, a bitter compound found in citrus.
Naringin dihydrochalcone is a phloretin glycoside discovered at the same time as neohesperidin dihydrochalcone during the 1960s as part of United States Department of Agriculture research program to find methods for minimizing the taste of bitter flavorants in citrus juices.
It is about 500-700 times sweeter than sucrose, with low calorific value, non-toxic, safety features, used in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industry, especially for dairy products, fats and oils, frozen foods, processed vegetables, jellies, jams, non-alcoholic beverages, chewing gum, toothpaste and tablets.
Naringin dihydrochalcones as a sugar substitute, can also reduce body's intake of sugar, and prevent obesity and patients that intake sugar overdose.
