Interposer is not required to use this tray with a SATA hard drive for PowerEdge servers. Just mount the SATA drive the same way as SAS drives. However, interposers are required if you want to use SATA drives in PowerVault MD1000

Some of the above servers or storage systems can be configured to use either 3.5' drives or 2.5' drives. This tray is for 3.5' drives only. If your server uses 2.5' drives, obviously this is the wrong tray for you and you should look for Dell KF248 2.5' tray
